What Flixonase 24-Hour is used for?
Flixonase 24-Hour contains an active ingredient called fluticasone propionate, which treats inflamed tissue.
Flixonase 24-Hour works by reducing swelling inside your nose. This makes breathing easier.
Flixonase 24-Hour is designed to work best if used on a daily basis, even if your allergy or hayfever symptoms have gone away or are reduced. If Flixonase 24-Hour is only used on a irregular basis, for example every four of five days, it will not be as effective.
Flixonase 24-Hour is not addictive.
In most cases, Flixonase 24-Hour will control your seasonal allergy symptoms, however in some instances you may need additional therapy, especially to control eye symptoms.
Warning:
When you must not use Flixonase 24-Hour:
Do not use Flixonase 24-Hour if you have ever had an allergic reaction to fluticasone propionate or any other of the ingredients listed.
Read the side effects section to find out the symptoms of an allergic (hypersensitivity) reaction to Flixonase 24-Hour.
Do not use Flixonase 24-Hour if you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant or breastfeeding, unless your doctor or pharmacist says you should.
Do not use Flixonase 24-Hour after the expiry date (EXP) printed on the pack. If you use the product after the expiry date has passed, it may not work as well.
Do not use Flixonnase 24-Hour if the packaging is torn or shows signs of tampering.
If you're not sure whether you should be using Flixonase 24-Hour, talk to your pharmacist or doctor.
Before you start using Flixonase 24-Hour:
You must tell your pharmacist or doctor if:
- You have an infection in your nose or sinuses

You have had nasal surgery
-
You have been treated with steroids injections, taken steroids tablets, used steroid asthma or nasal inhalers and eye/nose drops

You are allergic to foods, dyes, preservatives or any other medicine
Taking other medicines:
- Talk to your pharmacist or doctor if you are taking any other medicines, including medicines you buy without a prescription from a pharmacy, supermarket or health food shop.

Some medicines may effect the way others work. Your pharmacist or doctor will be able to tell you what to do when using Flixonase 24-Hour with other medicines
- Use in children
- Flixonase 24-Hour is not recommended for use in patients under 12 years of age
WHILE YOU ARE USING FLIXONASE 24-HOUR
Things you must do:
Tell your pharmacist or doctor that you are using Flixonase 24-Hour if you ar
about to be started on any other medicines
Tell your pharmacist or doctor if you become pregnant or are trying to become pregnant
Tell your pharmacist or doctor if , for any reason, you have not used your medicine exactly as advised. Otherwise, your pharmacist or doctor may think that it was not effective and change your treatment unnecessarily
Use Flixonase 24-Hour only in your nose
Things you must not do:
Do not exceed recommended daily dose
Do not give this medicine to anyone else, even if their symptoms seem similar
to yours
Do not use Flixonase 24-Hour to treat any other complaints unless your doctor
or pharmacist says to
SIDE EFFECTS:
Check with your pharmacist or doctor as soon as possible if you have any problems
while using Flixonsae 24-Hour, even if you do not think the problems are connected
with the medicine or are not listed in this information
Like other medicines, Flixonase 24-Hour can cause some side- effects. If they occur, they are most likely to be minor and temporary. However, some may be serious and need medical attention.
The most commonly reported side-effects are:
- Sneezing

Irritation or dryness in the nose or throat

Bad taste or smell

Nose bleed
-
Skin rash
-
Swelling
Rare side-effects include:

Wheezing and shortness of breath
-
Breakdown of tissue inside the nose (nasal septal perforation)
If any of these side-effects persist, or are troublesome, see your pharmacist or doctor
If you think you are having an allergic reaction to Flixonase 24-Hour, TELL YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST IMMEDIATELY or go to the emergency department at your nearest hospital.
Symptoms usually include some or all of the following:
- Wheezing

Swelling of the lips/mouth

Difficulty in breathing

Hayfever
-
Lumpy rash ("hives")

Fainting
Tell your pharmacist or doctor if you notice anything else that is making you feel unwell, even if it is not on this list
Ask your pharmacist or doctor if you don't understand anything in this list
Do not be alarmed by this list of possible side-effects. These are rare and you may not experience any of them
Storage:
Protect the bottle from direct sunlight
Do not put the bottle in the freezer
Do not store the medicine in the bathroom
Do not leave the spray bottle in the car or on windowsills
Heat and dampness can destroy some medicines
Keep your product in its pack until it is time to use it
Dosage:
Before Using:
Remove the green dust cap
A new spray unit, or one which has not been used for a few days, may not work
for the first time. You may need to 'prime' the bottle by pumping the spray
unit a few times until a fine mist is produced.
To do this: Shake the bottle gently. Hold the bottle with your forefinger and
the middle finger on the collar either side of the nozzle and your thumb underneath
the bottle. Hold the nozzle pointing away from you and keeping your thumb still,
press down with your fingers. Pump the spray unit several times until a fine
mist comes out of the nozzle.
If the spray unit still does not work and you think it may be blocked, clean
it as follows. Never try to unblock it or enlarge the tiny spray holes with
a pin or other sharp object because this will harm the spray mechanism
Cleaning the spray mechanism:
Take the dust cap off. Pull upwards on the white collar to remove the nozzle.
Soak the nozzle and dust cap in warm water for a few minutes and then rinse
under a cold running tap.
Shake off the excess water and allow to dry in a warm, NOT HOT, place. Re-fit
the nozzle.
'Prime' the bottle if necessary by pumping it a few times until the fine mist
is produced.
Using The Spray:
1. Shake the bottle and remove the dust cap
2. Blow your nose gently
3. Close one nostril. Tilt your head forward slightly and keep the bottle upright. Carefully insert the nasal applicator
4. Start to breathe in slowly through your nose. WHILE YOU ARE BREATHING IN press down firmly with your fingers once to release the spray
5. Breathe out through you mouth
6. Remove the nozzle from this nostril and repeat steps 3 to 5 with the other nostril
7. After using, wipe the nozzle carefully with a clean tissue or handkerchief , and REPLACE THE DUSTCAP.
How much to use:
In adults and children over 12 years of age: two sprays into each nostril once a day, preferably in the morning, unless your pharmacist or doctor tells you otherwise
Your pharmacist/doctor will advise you what to do if only one nostril is affected
The maximum amount of sprays per day must not be more than 2 sprays into each nostril
You may not feel the maximum benefit from your medicine straight away, but it is important that you continue to use it daily. It may take about 4 days until you get maximum relief from your medicine.
Seek medical advise if nasal symptoms are not relieved after 7 days of treatment
How long do I need to use the product for?
Do not use Flixonase 24-Hour for more than six months, except on medical advise
If you forget to use the product:
If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the dose you missed and use your next dose when you are meant to. Otherwise, use the product as soon as you remember, then go back to using the product as you would normally.
Do not use a double dose to make up for the dose that you missed
