What does Eurax do?
Eurax is used for the treatment of various forms of pruritas (itching) including itching associated with allergies, chicken pox (where the skin is unbroken) and itchiness due to insect bites and stings.
By relieving itching, Eurax prevents irritation and breaking of the skin caused by scratching and therefore reduces the risk of secondary infection.
Eurax may also be used for the treatment of scabies (infestation of the skin by mites).
Before you use Eurax
Before using Eurax for scabies, discuss appropriate treatment with your pharmacist or doctor.
Eurax should not be used if you have ever had an allergic reaction to the active substance or any of the other ingredients in the cream or lotion.
Eurax should not be used on acutely inflamed, weeping skin conditions or skin wounds owing to the possibility of it being absorbed into the blood stream.
Eurax should not be allowed to come in contact with eye. Where such contact occurs by accident, the eyes should be washed with saline or water.
Pregnancy and breast feeding
Use of Eurax during pregnancy, particularly during the first trimester, is not advised.
It is not known whether Eurax passes into the breast milk. Nursing mothers should avoid applying Eurax in the area of the nipples.
When and how to use Eurax
Pruritis (itching)
Eurax cream should be rubbed into the affected parts 2-3 times daily until the itching has subsided. If itching still persists after 5 days' treatment with Eurax, consult your pharmacist or doctor.
Scabies
Take a warm bath, dry the skin well, then rub Eurax into the entire body surface (excluding the face and scalp) until no traces of the preparation are visible on the surface. This should be repeated once daily, preferably in the evening, for a total 3-5 days, depending on the response.
Once applied, leave the Eurax on for 24 hours before taking a bath or shower. If the Eurax is washed off anywhere during this time (eg when tha hands are washed ), apply more Eurax to that area.
When applying Eurax, special attention should be paid to sites that are particularly susceptible to infestation by the mites (the spaces between the fingers and toes, wrists, the armpit area and genitals).
Where there is pus formation, these areas should be covered with a dressing impregnated with Eurax.
After completion of the treatment, a cleansing bath should be taken, followed by a change of bedlinen and underclothing.
In small children, Eurax should never be applied more than once a day.

Usually this medicine does not cause problems.
However, if skin irritation or contact allergy occurs, stop usingt Eurax.
