General:
During Pregnancy, nutrient requirements increase significantly and it is important for the general well-being of both mother and baby that these needs are met. An inadequate intake of Folic Acid, Calcium and Iron are particularly important but recently, studies have shown that women may be falling short of these requirements. One survey reveals 75% of pregnant women were not receiving target levels of Folic Acid, while National Dietary Survey (1983) Statistics show that 6 out of 10 women were not receiving the Recommended Dietary Intake (RD1) of Iron. A good intake of Calcium throughout pregnancy is also desirable for the development of strong bones and teeth, with requirements for Calcium increasing by 25% during pregnancy and 50% during lactation. Besides Folic Acid, Iron and Calcium, Thompson’s Pregnacare provides 17 other vitamins and minerals in a formula specifically designed to help mothers-to-be meet the increased nutritional requirements of pregnancy
